What to Do Before Your Appointment
While waiting to be seen, keep the area as clean as possible and avoid putting unnecessary pressure on an injured tooth. For swelling, a cold compress may provide temporary relief. If a tooth has been knocked out, handle it carefully by the crown rather than the root, gently rinse it if necessary, and seek dental care as quickly as possible.
For serious injuries—including a suspected broken jaw, significant facial trauma, uncontrolled bleeding, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or other potentially life-threatening symptoms—seek immediate medical attention or visit your nearest hospital emergency department.
